Pope Pius XII (b. 1876 d. 1958) also known as Eugenio Maria Giuseppe Giovani Pacelli, reigned as Pope from 2 March 1939-9 October 1958. Pius's reign is marked with controversy because of the Vaticans lack of public condemnation of Nazi attrocities directed towards the Jewish community. While still known as Eugenio Pacelli he served as Papal Nuncio to Germany from 1917-1929, his fondness for the nation remained even after his time there ended. His most important "achievement" came while serving as Cardinal Secretary of State when he negotiated the Reichskonkordat, with Nazi Germany.
